AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE WORK

"I am incredibly passionate about the deaf community. I love deaf theater, and it is my goal as a professional to help bring more new works into the community and find ways of making more theater accessible for the deaf." - Kristy Staky

"Nocturne" by Adam Rapp

Dir. John Rooney

Adapted for an ASL and hearing audience.

The Man: Dustin Whitehead (english)
The Sister: Kristy Staky (ASL)

Sign Master: Christina Stevens

Advisor: Jen Briggs

An adaptation of Adam Rapp's Nocturne; a show that depicts the struggle of a brother to let go of the memory of his dead younger sister. In our production, we created the character of the ghost of the sister, who communicates everything the narrator says, but in American Sign Language. It was our hope to show that she was still continually communicating with her brother and the world, but has lost her direct line of communication. Her use of ASL parallels the brothers use of poetry.
